Maybe my studies in psychoanalysis, or maybe my passion for Lego™. Or maybe my fear of spiders and my love for snakes. Maybe a mixture of all of this, boiling and working in my head.
The result is that I am always looking for crazy discoveries in the field of human feelings and relations. Sometimes happy and fascinated, sometimes disappointed and wrecked by what I find, I deeply believe that every human being is a unique masterpiece in their own right. Unfortunately, pain and melancholy are never a surprise in this kind of search; that is probably what being romantic and sensitive is about.
I left the University of Milan with a degree in psychology. I did a master’s at the Sorbonne with a thesis on the moral problem in Nietzsche and Freud, and got it done in less than a year. It was in Milan, my native city, that my passion and love for music began: I have been spinning records since the age of 15. I have always loved electronic music, and I followed the birth and rise of what is called house, in all its different forms.
I arrived in Paris in 1993, spun a lot of drum and bass mixed with classical at the Alcazar in 1999, and started collaborations with The Julia Set, Zol and Faudel (yep…). I finished my studies in 1995 with a thesis very much inspired by art and creation. One step after another, I have worked in bars, as a driver, a mover, a sandwich maker, a photographer’s assistant, a DJ, a painter, a fashion producer, a model agent and a film seller, and probably a few more I have forgotten. In cinema, I composed the soundtracks for two feature films, and I signed four remixes on Mercury Universal. I have also worked with several designers and brands on their shoots and shows, such as Swarovski, Gregor Pirouzi and Rad Hourani.
I started video and photography very late in life, self-taught, with no background and no training. This lets me bring more of my personal experience and emotions into my videos and pictures, and go beyond the technical side. I have worked in so many positions that I have learned to focus on the result rather than on the “way to get it”.
“Jenseits”, the German word for “beyond”, has always attracted me. What matters in my pictures and videos is not the technical side of the image, the depth of field or the colour balance. What really matters to me is the act of stealing moments for eternity, and that those moments can speak to as many people as possible, not only to me. Photography as a silent music: I think that says it well.
In 2007 I produced my first video trilogy, Video Speech. It was shown on the web and was well received. I have recently started several collaborations with different artists, which let me perfect my skills with new technologies.
In 2011 I am working on two new video projects, an album and probably a photo show in the middle of the year. I have also opened my new company, and I am doing advertising for some luxury brands.
